Site Tours

An integral part of the Dam Operators Forum is the inclusion of site visits within the program, offering a valuable opportunity to step beyond the forum room and experience dam operations firsthand. Join us as we explore some of Perth’s most significant water infrastructure, including Mundaring Dam, Canning Dam, and Wungong Dam, gaining practical insights while connecting with peers in a real-world setting.

Mundaring Dam (volume: 63GL)

Wednesday, 5th August
1.30pm - 5pm

Mundaring Weir is both a vital source of water for Western Australia and a lovely place to visit. Here, you can discover the fascinating history of the Goldfields Water Supply Scheme while immersing yourself in the natural beauty of the Darling Ranges. Mundaring Dam is a mass concrete gravity dam located on the Helena River approximately 35km east of Perth. The original dam wall was constructed between 1898 and 1903 as part of a scheme to supply water to the Goldfields. The raised dam wall is 72m high above the lowest level of foundation and 41m high above the downstream ground level. The dam crest is approximately 308m long and the dam wall impounds a storage of 63.6GL.

Canning Dam (volume 90GL)

Thursday, 6th August
8.30am - 3.30pm

Located on the Canning River approximately 33km from Perth, this dam combines scenic beauty with fascinating Western Australian history and is one of our most important reservoirs. Canning Dam plays an important role in the supply of safe drinking water to the Perth Metro. Canning Dam is a 66m high concrete gravity dam concave in shape with a crest length of approx. 466m. The dam was constructed between 1933 and 1940 on a rock foundation.

Wungong Dam (volume: 60GL)

Thursday, 6th August
8.30am - 3.30pm

Wungong Dam is located on Wungong Brook approximately 30km south-east of Perth. Constructed between 1975 and 1979, Wungong Dam is a 65m high earth core rockfill dam with a crest length of 460m. The reservoir has a storage capacity of around 60GL at the spillway crest level and is a major water source for the Integrated Water Supply Scheme.
